The Lens Index
How thick your lenses are is known as the index and this is used to measure different lens materials. They range from 1.498 refractive index (the standard plastic lens) to 1.74 refractive index (the world's thinnest plastic lens material)… But watch this space - something is developing in Japan! As a rough guide, the higher the index the thinner the lens will be.
In essence the more you spend the thinner they can be. Blink Opticians will advise you which index will best suit your prescription and also your frame choice. Your lens thickness depends on:
- the distance between your eyes
- your prescription
- the frame you choose
- the index of the individual lens
