flashes and floaters
The vitreous fluid which is the jelly ![]() |
inside the eye contains small particles which can cause floating spots that people may notice in their vision at some point. Most are formed when the vitreous starts to deteriorate with age. These small particles will appear as greyish specks in our vision and cast a shadow onto the retina. If you notice a large number of floaters it’s advisable that you contact us as soon as possible. Flashes of light are sometimes noticed by people too. Patterned or zig zagged light may be due to a migraine but if flashes and floaters appear at the same time they may be caused by a small tear in the retina. This requires urgent attention because ignoring a retinal tear could lead to the retina becoming detached from the back of the eye causing serious damage to your vision. Retinal detachment is more common in people who are very short sighted. If you notice both flashes and floaters in your vision contact us and make an urgent appointment. |
