A cataract (the green area in the image)cataract

occurs when your vision becomes blurred, you are dazzled by light or your colour vision fades as a result of the clouding of the lens in your eye. It is like frosted glass interfering with your vision. The most common type of cataracts are age related although cataracts can form at any age from conditions such as diabetes, certain medications and other eye problems. Congenital cataracts are those sometimes present at birth.

The exact causes of cataracts are unknown although they have been linked to smoking, excessive sunlight exposure and a poor diet.

Cataracts can be treated and removed with cataract surgery that removes the cloudy lens. A good diet may also help to slow the growth of age related cataracts.
