Amanda – Owner/Optometrist (Amanda Anderson - BSc(Hons) MCOptom)
Amanda has worked in Optics for 15 years. She worked as a locum at this very practice (then known as Shivani’s Eye Care) for three years before taking over the business.

Amanda has worked for independents, multiple chains and the head office of a multiple chain so has lots of experience within the Optics profession. Training is ongoing in Optics and Amanda attends education and training courses at every opportunity – and that equates to at least one full day course and one evening course per month! Note that this is more than the legal requirements to retain her membership of the General Optical Council. Amanda just likes to keep up to date on all the latest breakthroughs and believes this is one way Blink Opticians can deliver excellent customer service to their patients.

Fun facts about Amanda

• Lived abroad for most of her life – Indonesia, Norway and the Middle East
• Now lives between Northampton and Milton Keynes
• Has worn specs since she was 2! Was under consultant at Jakarta Hospital and had to wear a patch for 18 months – “I’ve got my Dad’s eyes”, says Amanda
• Never used to take her specs off – she slept in them till she was 13. “It helped because I could see when I woke up”, she says
• Loves to read and always has her nose in book
• For convenience Amanda wears contacts at work – with all the different machines she looks in everyday it just makes things a bit easier!
• Has three children - identical twin boys and a daughter
• Also has two cats and LOTS of fish! Two aquariums and a large pond with about 50 koi/carp in it

Deirdre – Locum Optometrist (Deirdre Walker BSc (Hons) MCOptom)
Deidre is a regular Wednesday presence at the practice and has been for about 10 years. Deidre also attends regular training days to keep on top of any developments in the profession.

• Very short-sighted!
• Has kids
• Tries to keep fit by cycling and playing badminton
• Enjoys classical music
• Has a mad cat that can say “hello”!
